Gathering Patient Consent Using the Flu Injection Module
This topic is not applicable to Rexall pharmacies.
This section is not applicable to Manitoba and Saskatchewan pharmacies. Flu injection consent cannot be documented electronically in Propel Rx for these provinces. However, a flu injection consent form can be pre-printed.
Consent for a flu injection can be completed on a workstation or an iPad, and can be gathered for the following:

An existing patient
-
A new patient
-
Copying an existing patient from the same family
When completed, the flu injection consent form is automatically attached to the prescription and can be viewed at a later time from the Patient Profile tab.
If a flu injection prescription is not completed within 48 hours of gathering consent, the patient consent will be deleted. If you need to process a flu injection prescription after 48 hours, you must gather patient consent again.

Gathering Patient Consent on a Workstation
To gather consent for an existing patient on a workstation:

Launch the Flu Consent Form using one of the two following methods:

From the Workbench, select RX > PFS > e Consent, then search for and select the patient.

From the Patient Folder, select RX > PFS > e Consent.
The Flu Consent Form launches in Patient Centre.

Confirm the patient's information.
-
Select Proceed.
-
Have the patient complete the sections on the form.

Select Confirm.

If a signature pad is attached, the Patient Signature window opens. Have the patient sign in the space provided. Select OK. Patient Centre auto-logs out the user.
If you are gathering consent electronically using a workstation without a signature pad, you must print the form afterwards and obtain the patient's signature. For more information, see Printing Completed Flu Consent Forms. Otherwise, you can pre-print the form and have the patient complete it by hand. For more information, see Pre-Printing a Flu Consent Form.
To gather consent for a new patient, a new Patient Folder must be created. This can be done during the process of getting consent.
To gather consent for a new patient on a workstation:

From the Workbench, select RX > PFS > e Consent. The Patient Search window appears.

Search for the patient to ensure they do not already exist in your system.

If no applicable results are returned, select New. A blank Patient Folder appears.

Enter the patient's information. For more information, see Creating a New Patient Folder.

Select OK. The Flu Consent Form launches in Patient Centre.

Select Proceed.
-
Have the patient complete the sections on the form.

Select Confirm.

If a signature pad is attached, the Patient Signature window opens. Have the patient sign in the space provided. Select OK. Patient Centre auto-logs out the user.

A new Patient Folder can be created for patients wanting the flu injection by copying information from an existing Patient Folder, if a member of that family already has a Patient Folder. Their last name and address information can quickly be copied to the new Patient Folder.
To gather consent for a new patient by copying an existing Patient Folder on a workstation:

From the Workbench, select RX > PFS > e Consent. The Patient Search window appears.

Search for the patient to ensure they do not already exist in your system.

If no applicable results are returned, select Copy. A new Patient Folder appears with the Last Name and address fields populated.

Add or modify any information, if required. For more information, see Creating a New Patient Folder.

Select OK. The Flu Consent Form launches in Patient Centre.

Select Proceed.
-
Have the patient complete the sections on the form.

Select Confirm.

Gathering Patient Consent on an iPad
To gather consent for an existing patient using an iPad:

Launch Patient Centre from the iPad.

Select Flu Injection. The Patient Search window appears.
If you are immediately directed to Medication Review, select the Logout button. Login using your Propel Rx credentials and select Flu Injection from the homepage.

Search for and select the patient.
-
Confirm the patient's information.
-
Select Proceed.
-
Have the patient complete the sections on the form.

Select Confirm. The Patient Signature window opens.

Have the patient sign in the space provided. Select OK. Patient Centre auto-logs out the user.
To gather consent for a new patient, a new Patient Folder must be created. This can be done during the process of getting consent.
To gather consent for a new patient using an iPad:

Launch Patient Centre from the iPad.

Select Flu Injection. The Patient Search window appears.

A new Patient Folder can be created for patients wanting the flu injection by copying information from an existing Patient Folder, if a member of that family already has a Patient Folder. This last name and address information can quickly be copied to the new Patient Folder.
To gather consent for a new patient by copying an existing Patient Folder on a workstation:

Launch Patient Centre from the iPad.

Select Flu Injection. The Patient Search window appears.
If you are immediately directed to Medication Review, select the Logout button. Login using your Propel Rx credentials and select Flu Injection from the homepage.

Search for the patient to ensure they do not already exist in your system.

If no applicable results are returned, select Copy. A new window opens with the Last Name and address information auto-populated.

Enter the patient's information.

Select Save. This information is saved and written back to Propel Rx.

Select Proceed.

Have the patient complete the sections on the form.

Select Confirm. The Patient Signature window opens.

Have the patient sign in the space provided. Select OK. Patient Centre auto-logs out the user.
